The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation fired
three top executives last week. Chief Operating Officer Beverly
Hart, Chief of Finance Sarah Stuckey, and Human Resources
Manager Linda Bodak were laid off as part of a financial restructuring
effort. Hart and Stuckey were both eight-year employees that
served as interim chief executives during a recent reorganization
that addressed legal issues about the foundation board's makeup
and financial problems; Bodak served in human resources for
18 years. Their duties will be absorbed by existing staff.
The move will redirect more resources
toward the foundation's core mission of promoting Wright's
legacy, says current CEO Phil Allsopp. Future plans call for
hiring a facilities manager and creating a center for design
innovation.
The layoffs mark the latest in a series
of leadership changes at the foundation. Allsopp, for instance,
is the third chief executive in as many years. In April 2004,
CEO James Goulka was replaced by Robert Harr, who was forced
out in September of that year.
The foundation is based at Taliesin
West, the architecture center Wright started in Scottsdale
in 1937. Today it operates an architecture school and archive.
It also oversees licensing and tour operations at its two
landmark campuses in Arizona and Wisconsin.
