Much like a young child might tote around a favorite picture book, architects and designers may start to carry the pocket sized Ecological Houses with them as a quick source of the inspirational beauty of sustainable design.
Based on what you have seen and read about this project, how would you grade it? Use the stars below to indicate your assessment, five stars being the highest rating.
Filled with bright, vibrant photos and smaller plans of 32 homes around the world, the tiny book offers short descriptions (no more than three sentences) of the environmentally friendly structures in four different languages; English, French, Italian and Spanish. From Venice, California to Vienna, Austria, Ecological Houses illustrates both high and low-tech solutions for energy efficiency.
That’s about as far as the book goes. With a six-book series by the same publisher entitled Cool Hotels, the reader should know what he or she is getting—“cool,” aesthetically pleasing examples of sustainable housing. It is not by any means meant to be a vital, information-filled learning tool or guide for those interested in the field.
The descriptions do include the architect, location, website and photo credit, which may prove useful if the reader liked a particular project and wished to learn more about the designer. Other than that, it’s simply a picture book of pretty, eco-friendly houses.
