Key Steps for Success in the Construction Marketplace

Presented by: John Vaci, Architectural Consultant, McGraw-Hill Construction BIO

Getting specified and purchased… timing… making specs work for your products… With an industry as complex as construction, the connection between the diverse players, as well as their influence on the final purchase of building products, is often not clearly understood. This session will focus on answering the most frequently asked questions of both small and large manufacturers, such as:

  • What do AEC professionals need to know about your products to select and specify them?
  • What are the key steps for marketing new products to AEC professionals?
  • What are the key steps that your sales representatives can take to get your products selected, specified and purchased?
  • How important are properly written proprietary specifications for building product manufacturers’ marketing programs?
  • What does LEED mean to you, the manufacturer?
  • Where do your products fit into the design and construction process?
  • What is a consultative sales call and how do you connect with specifiers in a positive way?
  • When is the right time to contact specifiers?
  • How do you find and follow up on real leads that get products into the marketplace?

TRACK TWO MORNING SESSION:
Registration & Breakfast: 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM

Revit(R) Architecture for Building Product Manufacturers

Presented by: Cyril Verley, RA. Vice President, London Infotech, Inc. BIO

Never used Revit, but want to learn? This session will explain how AECs are using this tool, and why it is sweeping through the design community. This hands-on class will begin with Revit’s user interface and focus on key Revit concepts that can be applied to many different features of the software.

Attendees will get a glimpse of Revit from all phases of the design process: For schematic design, attendees will see how to trace an imported hand sketch; for design development, create a plan color diagram and a schedule; and for construction documents, attendees will see how to cut sections, make a callout, add dimensions, and place them all on a Sheet. The presenter will even link an AutoCAD detail into the project. The session will end with information about how to create Revit product “family” models for the AEC industry, and get information about what makes a great family and the pitfalls to avoid.

  • Review the Revit user interface
  • Review 3D features for adding walls, doors, windows, stairs, floors, and roofs
  • Review 2D features for adding level lines, grids, dimensions, and notes
  • Review View creation such as Plans, Sections, Elevations, and Schedules
  • Review Sheet organization and layout
  • Review the linking of AutoCAD files

Integrating Products Earlier in the Design Process with BIM

Presented by: Steve Jones, Senior Director of Business Development, McGraw-Hill Construction BIO

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is more than an architect's tool, it’s a design movement that is experiencing wide adoption throughout the building design community. Manufacturers who integrate their products in the BIM process, and provide the type of product content necessary, will see significant increase in specifications and sales within the next few years. This session will cover answer several questions:

  • What is BIM, and why are design firms migrating toward it?
  • Where is the industry now, and where is it heading?
  • What does BIM look like, why are products now selected early in the design process, and how will BIM help
manufacturers get their products into the design at the earliest of stages?
  • What is the difference between a 3D model and an information model?
  • What do manufacturers need to produce to get into the BIM game?
  • How else can manufacturers get a head start to take advantage of this new movement?

This session will also include a 3D Modeling "how-to" segment with several BIM tools.

TRACK TWO AFTERNOON SESSION:
Registration & Lunch: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Afternoon Track: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
