McGraw-Hill Construction, part of The McGraw-Hill
Companies (NYSE:MHP), in cooperation with the China International
Contractors Association (CHINCA), recently held their Global Construction
Summit, which took place April 14-16, 2004 at the Kempinski Hotel
in Beijing, China. Over 450 industry leaders, 50% more than projected,
participated in the keynotes, panel discussions, exhibition forum
and networking events.
The Summit provided a platform for senior
executives from both Chinese and international construction companies
to discuss pressing issues facing the domestic China market and
the markets abroad. Moreover, participants interacted and engaged
in business-to-business transactions and negotiations.
Key attendees included:
- Mr. Zhang Zhigang, Vice Minister of Commerce
(MOFCOM)
- Mr. Huang Wei, Vice Minster, Ministry of
Construction
- Mr. Chen Jian, Assistant Minister of MOFCOM
- Mr. Yi Xiaozhun, Assistant Minster of MOFCOM
- Chairman and presidents from all of China's
top construction and design firms
- Regional chairmen and presidents of multinational construction
related firms such as Bechtel, Caterpillar and service firms such
as Sasaki, Arup, Willis and Masons Thelen Reid LLP
Mr. Diao Chunhe,
Vice Chairman of CHINCA, observed, “The Global Construction Summit
represents the highest level construction conference ever held in
China with the purpose of not only bringing foreign firms to China,
but also offering Chinese firms a platform and communication channel
by which to ‘look outward’ and seek opportunities abroad. CHINCA
is very proud to have co-hosted such an important event with McGraw-Hill
Construction."
"The
Summit was an outstanding event and an overwhelming success,"
commented Norbert W. Young, Jr., FAIA, president of McGraw-Hill
Construction. "The initial feedback on the program and its
networking opportunities was reported to be superior to any conference
attended in the past. It gave attendees a rare opportunity to meet
with senior Chinese officials and executives and gave insights into
their views and opinions on a range of important industry issues."
McGraw-Hill Construction
set a new standard for construction information companies in China
through both the staging of the event and the distribution of a
new Chinese magazine produced jointly by two its industry leading
publications, Architectural Record and Engineering News-Record (ENR).
Mr. Young concluded,
"The Summit demonstrated the McGraw-Hill Construction's leadership
role in connecting people, products and projects, as well as setting
the standards for quality information and industry intelligence."
