Paul Bonington

Paul Bonington is vice president of sales for McGraw-Hill Construction’s media, a portfolio that includes Architectural Record, Engineering News-Record, GreenSource, Constructor, and the Regional Construction Publication brands. In this role he develops and manages the MHC media sales organization; and he drives transformation of the media business to an integrated service model which leverages MHC’s research and information services, and optimizes digital, print and events delivery platforms for customers.

Prior to joining McGraw-Hill, Paul was vice president, worldwide marketing & product management for Globix Corporation, a data center and Internet service provider specializing in Web hosting, streaming media, and high-speed Internet access for enterprise customers in the U.S. and Europe.

From 1994 to 1998, Paul was senior vice president, group publisher for Mecklermedia, publisher of Internet World, Web Week, and Internet.com, and producer of the Internet World and ISPCon trade shows. At Mecklermedia Paul launched five media brands online and in print and championed the emerging need for media companies to adopt an integrated approach to the delivery of content and marketing services.

Prior to Mecklermedia Paul was director of national accounts for the International Data Group, publishers of Computerworld, CIO, PC World, MacWorld, and Network World, where he managed corporate accounts for IDG's media network. Paul has also held media sales and sales management positions with Fairchild, Penton, and Ziff-Davis publishing companies.

Throughout his career, Paul has been a leader, spokesperson, and advocate for driving Internet and digital transformation in the media and information markets. Paul earned a New York State Regents Scholarship and attended SUNY College at Oneonta, where he earned a B.S. degree in Business Economics and European History.

Jeffrey Heller, FAIA

Jeffrey Heller, FAIA, is president of Heller Manus Architects, leaders in sustainable practice, based in the U.S. and China. Jeffrey has directed green urban planning and major mixed use development in a dozen cities in China, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dalian, and others. He was partner-in-charge of the first LEED Gold high-rise office buildings in both San Francisco and Shanghai.
He is an Urban Advisor to the China National Mayors Association, and the Yangpu District of Shanghai. He serves on the boards of the Green Growth Leaders Council in Copenhagen, the Asia Society, the Bay Area Council, the Bay Bridge Design Advisory Panel, and the ChinaSF Advisory Board. Jeffrey is an AIA Fellow. He holds both Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Architecture and Urban Design from MIT.

Lee A. McIntire

Mr. McIntire has more than 35 years of international engineering and construction experience. He has leadership responsibility for the CH2M HILL enterprise. The firm is a recognized global leader in consulting, design, design-build, operations and program management for private and public clients. Mr. McIntire’s priorities for the firm are the highest standards of ethical behavior, safety, quality, and a positive client experience. The firm is frequently recognized for its focus on sustainability and work-place satisfaction.

CH2M HILL’s global operations serve clients on six continents, delivering projects, such as, 2012 London Olympics, Panama Canal Expansion, the Mumbai airport and Emirates Nuclear Energy Program. Prior to joining CH2M HILL, he was a partner and Board Director of Bechtel Group.

Mr. McIntire’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska, a Master’s degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, and the Executive Management Program at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business.

Mr. McIntire lends his leadership to a number of organizations around the world: Business Roundtable; World Economic Forum; World Business Council on Sustainable Development; U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum; National Petroleum Council; Council on Competitiveness; Aspen Institute’s Commission on the Arctic, and the National Academy of Construction. He serves as the Chair of the Infrastructure and Urban Industry Partnership of the World Economic Forum. He also serves as a non-executive director on the board of BAE Systems, PLC. In 2011 he was awarded the Woodrow Wilson Award for corporate citizenship.

Ryan J. Orr

Dr. Ryan J. Orr serves as co-founder and co-chairman of Zanbato, Incorporated. He is also the Executive Director of the Center for Global Projects at Stanford University and serves on the faculty there as a professor of Global Project Finance and Infrastructure Development. Dr. Orr finished his PhD in Engineering at Stanford University under the advisement of Nobel laureate in Economics, Douglass North. He is recognized globally as an expert in infrastructure development, finance, and Investment; and regularly advises pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices on infrastructure and energy investment strategy.

Philip Ovanessians
Vice President/General Manager of Global Procurement

Philip Ovanessians is the vice president and general manager of global procurement for Samsung Construction & Trading (C&T) Corp. Based in Seoul, Korea, he leads procurement operations outside South Korea, primarily in the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. Ovanessians previously served as manager of procurement services at Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Houston and also was director of material management at Fluor Corp. Samsung C&T ranks at no. 41 on ENR's list of the Top 225 Global Contractors, reporting that $1.57 billion of its $6.2 billion in 2011 revenue was outside South Korea. He has 20 years of global project execution EPC&M experience in all facets of supply management. Ovanessians has a passion for supplier prequalification and low cost country sourcing. Ovanessians has worked on long term assignments in the Americas, Asia, Europe (including Eastern), and the Middle East.

Paul Sheard
Executive Managing Director;
Chief Global Economist & Head of Global Economics and Research
Standard & Poor’s

Paul Sheard was named Chief Global Economist and Head of Global Economics and Research for Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services in June 2012. Paul leads a team of over 50 economists, researchers and quantitative analysts responsible for the macroeconomic forecasts used by Standard & Poor’s analysts during the ratings process, critical cross-sector research projects and ratings performance reporting. He is a member of the Standard & Poor’s Executive Committee.

Previously, Paul had been Global Chief Economist and Head of Economic Research at Nomura Securities. There, he led a team of 35 economists in seven countries and was responsible for the firm’s global economic forecasts, outlooks and analyses.

Earlier in his career, Paul spent eight years at Lehman Brothers where he held a similar position and also served as Asia Chief Economist. Before that, Paul was Head of Japan Equity Investments at Baring Asset Management. He has held faculty positions at Osaka University and the Australian National University, and visiting positions at Stanford University and the Bank of Japan.

Paul is the author of several books and articles on corporate governance and the Japanese economy. His book, The Crisis of Main Bank Capitalism (Toyo Keizai Shinposha), earned him the Suntory-Gakugei Prize in the Economics–Politics Division. He is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on the International Monetary System.

Paul received his bachelor’s degree from Monash University in Australia, a master’s degree in Economics and a Ph.D. from the Australian National University.

John E. Taylor, PhD

John E. Taylor, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Director of the Civil Engineering Network Dynamics Lab in the Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech. Dr. Taylor’s research combines experimental research and agent-based simulation to examine fundamental change processes in civil engineering networks of industrial and societal importance. Dr. Taylor received his PhD in 2006 from Stanford University on the topic of innovation in inter-organizational networks and his research continues to explore the network dynamics that follow industrial and societal changes. To date he has focused on network dynamics associated with information system integration, industry globalization, workforce virtualization, and energy conservation in buildings. His research is funded by the National Science Foundation, the Construction Industry Institute, the Earth Institute, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and other public and private funding sources. Dr. Taylor is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award and an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Industry Studies Fellowship. His research has received Best Paper Awards from the ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering, the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, and the Project Management Journal. Prior to entering academia Dr. Taylor was the founder of two technology startups serving the construction industry and he spent five years as a project manager of heavy civil construction projects.

Janice L. Tuchman
Editor-in-Chief
Engineering News-Record

As editor-in-chief, Janice L. Tuchman directs the editorial operations of the Engineering News-Record enterprise—delivering news and analysis online, in print and at events.  She works on strategic planning and develops new editorial products, projects and issues.

Under Tuchman’s leadership, the ENR team won five prestigious Jesse H. Neal awards in March 2011. The awards include Best Profile, Best Technical Article, Best Use of Social Media, Best Range of Work and Best News Coverage for in-depth reporting on the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. The winning entries used mixed media to bring readers video and web components as well as stories in print. For 2012, ENR is a finalist for Neals in five categories.

Tuchman is active both in the construction industry and publishing associations. Last year she was named to the National Research Council’s Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment. In 2010, she was inducted into the National Academy of Construction and was appointed to the Industry Leaders Council of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She is a trustee of the SMPS Foundation and serves on the Industry Advisory Committee of the Department of Civil Engineering at Columbia University. In 2002, she became only the sixth woman to be elected to membership in “The Moles,” a prestigious heavy-construction industry leaders organization. She is a member of the editorial committee of American Business Media.

A number of groups have honored Tuchman. In 2010, she won an award for journalism from the Society of Military Engineers, North Virginia Post. In 2009, she was inducted into the Construction Writers Association Hall of Fame, and the Women Builders Council of New York City selected her as a Champion Award Winner. In 2002, she was named Woman of the Year by the Los Angeles chapter of the Women’s Transportation Society and won a career achievement award from Professional Women in Construction. She has won McGraw-Hill Corporate Achievement Awards for Information Technology and for Editorial Excellence. She also co-authored a McGraw-Hill book called Exposed Structure in Building Design.

Tuchman earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
